Deep Water Bay Beach

EPD's annual water quality ranking in 2014 Good
Primary pollution mode Rainfall - Streamflow driven
Major factor determining beach water quality Salinity, Rainfall

The popular beach enjoys excellent water quality most of the time throughout the year. All of the sewage from the nearby settlement is diverted away from the beach, whereas the wastewater from its beach facilities is conveyed to a public sewer. Its beach water quality becomes slightly worse during the rainy season. Two freshwater sources which discharge into the beach water are the potential causes. As the ambient Southern waters of the beach are generally clean, the pollution from the ambient water outside the bay is minimal. Although the beach is usually clean, salinity is still a good indicator of beach water quality.

The streamflow is predicted by the hydrological model, the MIKE-SHE model. Click here to know how the simulation is carried out, using the Big Wave Bay as an example.
