Golden Beach

EPD's annual water quality ranking in 2014 Fair
Primary pollution mode Tidal current driven
Major factor determining beach water quality Tide level, Rainfall

Its beach water quality is mostly fair. It is heavily influenced by the ambient water quality. The bacterial pollution in ambient waters primarily comes from the sewage discharge from the Pillar Point Sewage Treatment Works. Its fate and transport is controlled by tidal current. Tide level was thus found to be a good predictor of its water quality. Rainfall is another good predictor. Poor water quality usually coincides with the rainy season in June to August. Otherwise, as only one storm drain with low volume discharges near Golden beach, the influence of local pollution is in general small.
