Fish Culture Zone Description
Ma Wan Fish Culture Zone (MW) is located at Ma Wan, between Tsing Yi and Lantau Island. After the construction of Chek Lap Kok Airport and Disneyland in Lantau Island, about 20% of the natural coastline in Western Waters has been reclaimed. This had an adverse impact on the natural environment. To remedy the loss of natural coastlines, the HKSAR Government has launched some action plans such as designating the 12 km2 Sha Chau and Lung Kwu Chau Marine Park in 1996. The marine park serves as sanctuary for the indigenous Chinese white dolphin as well as the endangered horseshoe crab.
