Eastern Waters
Eastern Waters (525.1 sq km2) includes Long Harbour, Tai Long Wan and the outer part of Mirs Bay joining the South China Sea. There are two marine parks in this area: Hoi Ha Wan and Tung Ping Chau. Fish culture zones located in this region include Ko Lau Wan, Sham Wan and Tap Mun.
This part of Hong Kong has oceanic nature. It opens to oceanic flows with clearer and more saline deep ocean water. Influenced by the Pearl River is relatively small. On the land side, this region is mainly country parks or small villages. Without much development and with low population density, water here is in good quality. In here, high biodiversity of marine life, includes sponges, corals and over 300 reef-associated species is observed.
